boho glam bedroom refresh

Glam boho? Does it exist? It does. This idea ended up being the winning number for this particularly fashionable, feminine, and awesome client living in Houston, TX. She had a basic bedroom design from a year or so prior, but came to realize that it felt a little too "little girl" to her rather than "va va voom glamour gal." Alas, she wanted a refresh - something a little more bold, out there, and sophisticated!

One Kings Lane was her main point of inspiration, so I ran with that. Something interesting, personality-filled, and still put-together. She had this wonderfully classic headboard, which I love. Starting with a piece like this that is neutral enough to translate to many styles is key! All I had to do was find some quirky and colorful art to mix with a new makeup prep station in the form of a desk.

This desk is wild, right? It's really interesting, almost a nod to old Hollywood and art deco styles. The more textural and earthy lamp mixed with the pillow on the bed softens up the glam quotient and makes it more comfortable. I feel that no glam room is complete without some form of velvet, so this mid-century dining chair from West Elm was a perfect find.

The palette of the abstract painting is just what we were looking for - ultra feminine but not little girly with all pink. It has some edge, and gives the room a healthy dose of color - something it was missing from the beginning.

classic boho vibes

Quick moodboards are my favorite. They get the creative juices flowing! It's usually the hardest part of the creative process, as starting from scratch can be DAUNTING... But after some playing around, you eventually reach some harmony and see the light.

This little setup was for a client in the process of building a brand new coastal abode in North Carolina, starting her life anew! This Pottery Barn sectional is a great choice for a classic look - I think I speak for most designers these days when I say that I'm tired of sectionals and the complications they create in a design. If you're going for a huge piece and insist on it being a sectional, make sure it's classic in style and neutral in color so that you can transform it through the years. It may be best to hold off on one until you're in your "forever home," or open to the fact that it may not fit in your next house no matter how hard you try! Be ready to sell/part with that sucker when needed.

The global pillows mixed with the abstract boho art, along with the natural wood table and woven rug create this super inviting and casual space with a touch of femininity. A mini paradise for a mother and her two tween daughters!
